Mario
August 2026
A Fuquay-Varina homeowner called after hours with no AC after the thermostat went blank. There was no power at the thermostat, and the outside unit was not turning on at all.
Mario found that the transformer at the attic air handler was bad, and the disconnect had warped and welded together due to arcing at the connections. He turned power off at the breaker, replaced the transformer, and tested system operations, which revealed a thumping sound from the ECM motor indicating motor failure. A disconnect replacement was scheduled for Monday to coincide with a previously scheduled cooling maintenance visit, and the office was set to call the supply house in the morning to confirm warranty coverage and motor availability.
After Mario left, the homeowner reported that the replacement transformer had failed again, so it will need to be replaced once more with a low-voltage fuse added on the R wire.
Fuquay-Varina's southern Wake County location experiences some of the hottest temperatures in the Triangle, with HVAC systems working overtime during peak summer months. Systems need to be properly sized and maintained to handle the extended cooling season.
The town's mix of rural properties and suburban developments means HVAC needs range from single-story ranch homes to two-story suburban builds. Each property type requires different system configurations and maintenance approaches.
High summer humidity combined with heat creates challenging conditions for cooling systems. Proper dehumidification is essential for both comfort and preventing moisture-related issues in your home.
Many homes in Fuquay-Varina use well water, which can affect HVAC performance and maintenance needs. Understanding the interaction between your water system and HVAC is crucial for optimal operation.

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Fuquay-Varina.
We consider it an emergency when you have no cooling at all, when temperatures pose a health risk (especially for elderly family members, young children, or pets), when you notice burning smells or electrical issues from your AC, or when water is actively flooding from your system. If you're unsure, call us. We'll help you determine the urgency.
Emergency calls include a service/dispatch fee plus the flat-rate cost of whatever repair is needed. We provide the repair quote before beginning work so there are no surprises. The total depends on the specific failure: it could be as simple as a $200 capacitor replacement or as involved as a compressor repair.
Turn off the AC system at the thermostat to prevent further damage (especially if you hear unusual sounds or smell burning). Close blinds and curtains on sun-facing windows, use fans to circulate air, and stay hydrated. If water is leaking, place towels or containers to minimize damage and turn off the system immediately.
We charge a standard emergency dispatch fee that applies regardless of when you call. We don't inflate repair prices based on the time of day or day of the week. The repair cost is the same whether it's Tuesday at 2 PM or Saturday at 10 PM.
