Travis & Mario
August 2026
A Carrboro apartment's AC unit, installed last June, continued to freeze up.
Travis and Mario found that the outdoor condensing unit had been pulled during drain repair work by another company and was never plugged back into the disconnect/power supply. The system initially raised the possibility of a TXV-related issue, but after they restored power to the outdoor unit, the operating pressures appeared to be within normal range. Kyle was scheduled to return the next day to monitor and further evaluate the system, with the TXV to be investigated further (and handled as a warranty repair if confirmed defective) if the unit begins to freeze up again or shows signs of restricted refrigerant flow.
With power restored, the system was running and cooling the apartment down appropriately, with operating pressures within normal range.

Manny & Aaron
August 2026
The homeowner reported that the blower wheel tried to rotate on a fan call, rocking and stuttering, then cut back off with no airflow.
The root cause was a failed ECM motor with an internal module control failure. Manny and Aaron verified 240 VAC at the incoming power harness and 28 VAC at the speed tap, so line voltage and thermostat call signals were fully present. That showed the motor was trying to rotate before cutting out under load. They confirmed active warranty coverage with the distributor and ordered an OEM ECM replacement motor under warranty through Johnstone Supply for pickup at the Garner branch, with a return visit planned to install it and verify system operation.

Manny & Mario
July 2026
The A2L Refrigerant Detection System (RDS) sensor at the evaporator coil/air handler was faulty. Manny and Mario isolated power, removed the failed sensor, installed a new OEM sensor, and reconnected the wiring harness. They then cleared the active error codes on the mitigation control board and restored system power.
Normal sensor communication and blower operation were verified, and the system was operational with no active faults.

Jeorell & Mario
July 2026
A Carrboro apartment's system was not cooling, and the unit was going on and off. The maintenance tech believed another tech had put 410a in a system that is R-32.
Jeorell found the system running at first, and then it shut off. He called for cool at the thermostat again and checked pressures, noting that pressures between 410a and R32 are similar. He recommended recovering all the refrigerant from the system, installing a new filter drier, pulling a vacuum and adding the proper amount of R32, with an estimate to be attached.

For standard AC repairs in the Apex, Cary, Raleigh, and surrounding areas, we typically offer same-day or next-day service. During peak summer months (June-August), demand is highest, so we recommend calling early in the day. Emergency repairs are prioritized and dispatched as quickly as possible.
Repair costs depend on the specific problem and parts needed. A capacitor replacement might run $150-$300, while a compressor replacement can range from $1,500-$2,500+. We charge a diagnostic fee to identify the problem, then provide a flat-rate repair quote before proceeding.
As a general guideline, if a repair costs more than 50% of a new system and your equipment is over 10 years old, replacement often makes more financial sense. We'll give you an honest assessment factoring in your system's age, repair history, efficiency, and the cost of the specific repair needed.
This is extremely common. Peak heat days push your system to maximum capacity for extended periods. Components like capacitors, compressors, and fan motors that are already weakened by wear are most likely to fail under this extreme stress, similar to how a worn tire is most likely to blow out on a long highway drive.
