Why Is the Water Pressure Coming and Going in Cary?

What the customer reported

A property manager for a home in the 27519 area of Cary called about intermittent pressure issues in the plumbing.

What we found and did

Alex and Chris found a lot of sediment inside the toilet, and the lavatory sink in the bathroom also had a lot of sediment in the aerator. They cleaned the sediment out of the sink aerator. They advised the property manager to replace the toilet's fill valve and the PRV (pressure reducing valve) and to vacuum out the toilet tank.

Taped-Up Outdoor Faucet Still Leaking in Cary

What the customer reported

A Cary homeowner in the 27513 area called about a leaking hose bib at the rear of the property. He had taped it to stop the leak, and the dispatcher noted the outside faucet probably froze last winter.

What we found and did

Alex and Nick went into the crawlspace and found PEX water lines feeding a long shank hose bib, with PVC drain lines throughout the house. They replaced the hose bib and installed a PEX ball valve in the crawlspace so the homeowner can shut the outdoor faucet off in the winter. Because the homeowner's protective dogs prevented a full evaluation of the plumbing system inside, they told the homeowner to expect some air in the lines and to run the water throughout the home to clear it out.

Water Meter Lid Out of Place After an Inspection in Cary

What the customer reported

A Cary homeowner in the 27518 area reported that the main water meter was disturbed during an earlier inspection and asked to have it put back into its correct position.

What we found and did

The team returned on a recall visit and, since no one was home, accessed the water meter with the homeowner's permission. Before moving anything, they took pictures of the top of the water meter lid. They then took the lid off, cleaned around the meter lid, and put it back in place, with photos taken to document the work.

Ceiling Leak Right Before a Tenant Move-In in Cary

What the customer reported

A property manager for a rental in the 27519 area of Cary reported a leak in the ceiling, with a tenant potentially moving in the next day.

What we found and did

Nick found active dripping on arrival. He made a couple of exploratory holes based on previous issues at the complex and found a dry area, so he moved to the middle of the kitchen and opened a larger section of ceiling sheetrock. There he uncovered a pinhole leak from a nail on the three-quarter inch hot PEX waterline and made the PEX repair. While on site, he also opened a piece of sheetrock in the basement of the same building and discovered a leak going up the vent stack, which the service manager will investigate with exploratory holes before scheduling a follow-up repair.

Result

The hot PEX waterline repair was completed successfully.

Why quality leak detection & repair matters in Cary

Airflow Challenges

Cary's suburban growth and tree canopy create unique airflow challenges, requiring properly sized HVAC systems to efficiently cool multi-story homes.

Humid Subtropical Climate

The area's humid subtropical climate with 90°F+ summer temperatures demands high-efficiency AC systems to manage energy costs and maintain comfort.

Aging Systems

Many Cary neighborhoods built in the 1990s-2000s have aging HVAC systems nearing replacement age, making preventive maintenance critical.

HOA Requirements

Local HOA regulations in Cary's planned communities often require specific equipment placement and noise level compliance for outdoor AC units.

FAQ

Leak Detection & Repair in Cary: questions answered

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Cary.

How do I know if I have a hidden leak?

Common signs include an unexplained increase in your water bill, the sound of running water when all fixtures are off, warm spots on the floor (slab leak), musty odors, or discoloration on walls and ceilings. If you suspect a leak, we can confirm it quickly with a pressure test.

How much damage can a small leak cause?

Even a pinhole leak can release 5 to 10 gallons of water per day. Over weeks or months, that leads to mold growth, structural wood rot, damaged insulation, and ruined drywall. Early detection saves thousands in repair costs compared to waiting until damage is visible.

Do you repair slab leaks, or do I need a separate contractor?

We handle the complete process: detection, repair, and pressure verification. For slab leaks, we offer direct repair through the concrete, tunnel-under access, and full reroute options. We discuss the pros and cons of each approach for your specific situation.

Will my homeowner's insurance cover leak damage?

Most policies cover sudden and accidental water damage but not gradual leaks or maintenance issues. We provide detailed documentation including photos, pressure readings, and repair descriptions that help support your insurance claim. We recommend filing promptly after discovery.
