Thermostat Stuck on a Saturday Morning in Cary
The Problem
The homeowner noticed their AC was not cooling effectively and the thermostat seemed unresponsive.
What We Found
Travis and Dexter found that the thermostat was not properly communicating with the AC system, leading to inconsistent cooling performance.
The Fix
Travis and Dexter performed a comprehensive A/C tune-up, which included checking refrigerant levels, operating pressures, and testing all electrical components and safety controls. They also inspected the condensate drain, verified thermostat operation, and ensured optimal airflow and temperature split.
The Result
The system was confirmed to be operating within normal conditions, and the homeowner was advised on future maintenance needs.
Pro Tip

What Caused AC Performance Issues in Cary?
The Problem
The homeowner noticed that their air conditioning system wasn't cooling as efficiently as before.
What We Found
Dexter and Aaron found that while the system was functioning, the blower motor and filter needed attention, and the system could benefit from a surge protector.
The Fix
The team conducted a thorough maintenance check, inspecting the filter, blower motor, delta T, amps, capacitor, and refrigerant levels. They suggested cleaning the blower motor and recommended installing a surge protector to prevent future electrical issues.
The Result
After the maintenance, the AC system was operating efficiently, providing consistent cooling throughout the home.
Pro Tip
A dirty blower motor can reduce your AC's efficiency. Consider regular cleaning to keep your system running smoothly and avoid unexpected breakdowns.

Why Is My AC Blowing Warm Air in Cary?
The Problem
A homeowner in Cary noticed that their air conditioning system was blowing warm air despite the unit being on.
What We Found
Manny and Dexter discovered that the indoor blower motor run capacitor was degraded, causing reduced airflow and an excessive temperature drop across the evaporator coil.
The Fix
They recommended replacing the failing indoor blower motor capacitor to restore proper motor RPM and prevent thermal overload. Additionally, they advised scheduling a follow-up appointment for refrigerant adjustment due to a detected shortage.
The Result
The replacement of the capacitor improved the airflow, allowing the AC to function more efficiently.
Pro Tip
A degraded capacitor can lead to inefficient cooling and increased energy bills. If your AC starts blowing warm air, have the capacitors checked — it's a small fix that can prevent bigger issues.

“Today we had the pleasure of meeting Chris with Element Service. An old hand-crank pump that has been in our yard for 62 years ruptured when someone actually tried to crank the pump to see if it worked. Our backyard was flooded and we were beside ourselves when we learned our home maintenance plan wouldn't cover the repair. But then we remembered that the Element HVAC team had been out to service our unit and had told us they also had a plumbing division. We called this morning and they made a way out of no way to get someone here today. At 2:38PM we got the call from Chris and he was on the way! He was GREAT! Not only did he cap the line--having to bust through concrete to do so--he also kept us laughing! We were so upset when he got here, but were laughing and having a good ole time when he was done. He was determined not to leave until he fixed the problem and got our water back on. As the cliché goes, that was service with a smile! Thanks so much Chris, and thanks to the HVAC team for letting us know they also provided plumbing service. And I would be remiss if I did not mention the cost! We were floored as we were expecting an astronomical bill--especially having to get through concrete! Needless to say we were greatly surprised!!! Thanks again, Chris! Cameron has a good one!!!”

Why Quality HVAC Maintenance Matters in Cary
Airflow Challenges
Cary's suburban growth and tree canopy create unique airflow challenges, requiring properly sized HVAC systems to efficiently cool multi-story homes.
Humid Subtropical Climate
The area's humid subtropical climate with 90°F+ summer temperatures demands high-efficiency AC systems to manage energy costs and maintain comfort.
Aging Systems
Many Cary neighborhoods built in the 1990s-2000s have aging HVAC systems nearing replacement age, making preventive maintenance critical.
HOA Requirements
Local HOA regulations in Cary's planned communities often require specific equipment placement and noise level compliance for outdoor AC units.
Common HVAC Maintenance Issues in Cary
Aging Systems Need More Frequent Attention
HVAC systems in Cary's established neighborhoods require more thorough maintenance as they age, with electrical components, motors, and refrigerant connections all more prone to failure after 15 years.
R-22 System Monitoring
Older Cary homes with R-22 refrigerant systems need careful leak monitoring during maintenance, as even small leaks become extremely expensive to repair with phased-out refrigerant.
Filter Neglect in Tech-Busy Households
Cary's tech-corridor professionals often neglect regular filter changes, leading to restricted airflow, frozen coils, and premature compressor failure.
Ductwork Degradation Over Time
Twenty-year-old ductwork in Cary homes develops loose connections, torn insulation, and sagging flex duct that maintenance visits can identify before they cause significant energy waste.

Frequently Asked Questions About HVAC Maintenance in Cary
Answered by our licensed technicians serving Cary
My Cary home's HVAC is 20 years old—is maintenance still worth it?
Yes, but with realistic expectations. Maintenance on a 20-year-old system keeps it running as long as possible while we monitor for signs of impending major failures. It also gives us the opportunity to help you plan for replacement rather than facing an emergency situation. Many Cary homeowners get 2-5 additional years from well-maintained older systems.
How do I know if my Cary HVAC system needs more than maintenance?
During maintenance, we measure performance metrics like temperature differential, refrigerant pressures, and electrical draw. If these values fall outside acceptable ranges—common in Cary homes with 15+ year systems—we'll honestly tell you whether repair or replacement is the better investment.
What maintenance plan do you recommend for Cary homeowners?
We recommend our comprehensive plan that includes two visits per year (spring and fall), priority scheduling, 15% discount on repairs, and no overtime charges. For Cary homes with older systems, this plan often pays for itself with a single prevented emergency call.
Do you check ductwork during Cary HVAC maintenance?
Yes. We inspect accessible ductwork connections during every maintenance visit. For Cary homes with 20-year-old ductwork, we often find disconnected joints, torn insulation, and sagging flex duct that waste energy. We can seal minor issues during the visit or recommend more comprehensive duct repair if needed.
