Why Is My AC Blowing Warm Air in Clayton?

The Problem

A homeowner in Clayton noticed their air conditioning was blowing warm air instead of cooling the house.

What We Found

Aaron discovered that the AC unit was low on refrigerant R410a and identified a leak at the indoor coil.

The Fix

Aaron performed a thorough cooling maintenance check. He pinpointed the refrigerant leak at the indoor coil and advised the homeowner on the necessary steps to repair the leak and recharge the system with refrigerant.

The Result

The homeowner was informed about the leak and the need for further repairs to restore the AC's cooling efficiency.

Pro Tip

If your AC starts blowing warm air, it might be low on refrigerant due to a leak. Addressing leaks early can prevent more costly repairs and keep your home comfortable.

Why Is My AC Not Cooling Properly in Clayton?

The Problem

A homeowner in Clayton noticed their air conditioning system was not cooling effectively.

What We Found

Dexter found that the capacitor and contactor needed replacement.

The Fix

Dexter replaced the faulty capacitor and contactor, installed a new LED UV element, and tested the system's operation to ensure everything was functioning correctly.

The Result

The air conditioning system was restored to proper working condition, providing efficient cooling.

Pro Tip

If your AC isn't cooling well, the capacitor or contactor might be failing. Listen for unusual noises or frequent cycling — these can be early signs of trouble.

Why Is My AC Not Blowing Air in Clayton?

The Problem

The homeowner reported that their AC unit was not blowing air.

What We Found

Jeorell found that the system was operational and cooling properly with a 20°+ temperature split.

The Fix

Jeorell checked the heat pump pack and pressures, finding no issues. The system was cooling effectively at the time of departure. A maintenance membership was added, as the outdoor coil needed cleaning due to some buildup.

The Result

The AC system was functioning correctly and cooling the home by the end of the visit.

Pro Tip

If your AC isn't blowing air, check for coil buildup. A dirty coil can restrict airflow and reduce cooling efficiency. Regular cleaning can prevent this issue.

Cooling System Inefficient in Clayton

The Problem

The homeowner noticed their cooling system was not performing efficiently and was concerned about potential issues.

What We Found

Dexter found that the DAT sensor was incorrectly placed, multiple spots of growth were present in the system, and the blower motor was over amping. Additionally, the system, being over five years old, had not had its capacitor or contactor replaced.

The Fix

Dexter suggested relocating the DAT sensor to its proper location and replacing the blower motor to prevent system failure. He also recommended replacing the contactor and capacitor and installing a UV element to protect the indoor air quality.

The Result

The maintenance ensured the cooling system operated efficiently and improved the home's air quality.

Pro Tip

An incorrectly positioned DAT sensor can lead to inefficient cooling and higher energy bills. Relocating it and replacing old components like the blower motor, capacitor, and contactor can optimize performance and extend your system's lifespan.

Today we had the pleasure of meeting Chris with Element Service. An old hand-crank pump that has been in our yard for 62 years ruptured when someone actually tried to crank the pump to see if it worked. Our backyard was flooded and we were beside ourselves when we learned our home maintenance plan wouldn't cover the repair. But then we remembered that the Element HVAC team had been out to service our unit and had told us they also had a plumbing division. We called this morning and they made a way out of no way to get someone here today. At 2:38PM we got the call from Chris and he was on the way! He was GREAT! Not only did he cap the line--having to bust through concrete to do so--he also kept us laughing! We were so upset when he got here, but were laughing and having a good ole time when he was done. He was determined not to leave until he fixed the problem and got our water back on. As the cliché goes, that was service with a smile! Thanks so much Chris, and thanks to the HVAC team for letting us know they also provided plumbing service. And I would be remiss if I did not mention the cost! We were floored as we were expecting an astronomical bill--especially having to get through concrete! Needless to say we were greatly surprised!!! Thanks again, Chris! Cameron has a good one!!!

I’d like to extend a big thank you to Nick and the new plumbing department at Element Service Group. They’ve consistently done an excellent job maintaining my HVAC system, so when I learned they had started a plumbing department, I expected the same level of professionalism—and they delivered. They provided a courtesy plumbing inspection and thoroughly checked my entire home. I’m happy to say everything received a big check mark. The only recommendations were simple maintenance items to help keep everything in great condition and give me peace of mind about my plumbing. I highly recommend their team. I’ve lived in this home for 40 years and have had many different tradesmen work here, but today I realized I’ve finally found the right company.

Why Quality HVAC Maintenance Matters in Clayton

New Construction

Clayton's rapid growth means many new homes with modern HVAC systems that require proper setup and maintenance from day one.

Extreme Summer Heat

Summer temperatures regularly hit 90-95°F with high humidity, putting significant demand on cooling systems throughout the season.

Builder Warranties

Newer construction neighborhoods often have specific builder warranties that require professional HVAC maintenance to remain valid.

County Building Codes

Johnston County building codes have specific requirements for HVAC installations that local professionals must navigate properly.

Common HVAC Maintenance Issues in Clayton

Uncorrected Installation Issues

Many Clayton HVAC systems were installed during rapid construction and never properly commissioned. Maintenance visits often reveal incorrect refrigerant charges, improper airflow, and loose electrical connections that have reduced performance since day one.

Transitioning from Trouble-Free to Maintenance-Dependent

After 10-12 years, Clayton's builder-grade HVAC systems start requiring regular component replacement—capacitors, contactors, and fan motors are the most common failure points.

High Pollen Load from Surrounding Rural Areas

Clayton's proximity to agricultural land and wooded areas means outdoor HVAC coils collect debris faster than urban areas, requiring more frequent cleaning to maintain efficiency.

Neglected Filter Changes

Many Clayton homeowners underestimate how often filters need changing, especially during spring pollen season. Restricted airflow from dirty filters is the leading cause of preventable HVAC failures in Clayton homes.

Frequently Asked Questions About HVAC Maintenance in Clayton

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Clayton

My Clayton home is newer—do I really need HVAC maintenance?

Even newer Clayton homes benefit from professional maintenance. In fact, many builder-grade systems have installation issues—incorrect refrigerant charge, improper ductwork connections—that we routinely discover and correct during maintenance visits. Annual maintenance also maintains your manufacturer warranty.

What's included in HVAC maintenance for Clayton homes?

Our Clayton home maintenance covers: refrigerant level check and correction, coil cleaning, condensate drain flush, electrical component testing, motor lubrication, thermostat calibration, filter replacement, and ductwork connection inspection. We also check for the installation issues common in Clayton's newer construction.

How often should I change my HVAC filter in Clayton?

We recommend monthly filter changes for Clayton homes during spring (March-May) due to heavy pollen from surrounding rural areas. During other seasons, every 60-90 days is sufficient for standard 1-inch filters. If you have pets or allergies, monthly year-round is ideal.

Will HVAC maintenance lower my Clayton energy bills?

For Clayton homes averaging $150/month in energy costs, maintenance typically saves $200-400/year. The biggest gains come from correcting refrigerant charge issues (10-20% efficiency improvement) and cleaning dirty coils (10-15% improvement). Combined, these can noticeably reduce your Duke Energy bill.
