Why Schedule a Plumbing Inspection in Clayton?

The Problem

A homeowner in Clayton wanted to ensure their plumbing system was in good condition.

What We Found

Chris conducted a thorough inspection of the home's plumbing system.

The Fix

Chris performed a comprehensive plumbing inspection, checking all visible pipes, fixtures, and connections for any signs of wear or potential issues. He identified areas that might need attention in the future and planned to return with materials to address these concerns.

The Result

The homeowner received a detailed report on the current state of their plumbing system, with recommendations for future maintenance.

Pro Tip

A plumbing inspection can catch small issues before they become major problems. Schedule regular inspections to maintain your system's efficiency and avoid costly repairs.

Matt Nicholson

Matt Nicholson

Chris D. showed up this morning to replace my water heater and repair my plumbing. He assessed what problems he would be working against quickly, and adapted to what parts/tools were missing without ever missing a beat. Chris was quick, friendly, professional, and had a calming demeanor about him that put future anxieties about my water heater at ease. He was great about communicating (without being a bother) about what he was doing, how he was progressing, etc. and I could not be more thankful for that transparent communication. Thank you Chris, for what felt like a genuine textbook example of how I hope any service call goes. The work was top, the work ethic was top, and the professional and friendly attitude was mint. This is what the standard should be. (Our apartment complex has a contract with the company, so I did not have to pay out of pocket for this replacement unit. I asked Chris if he had an estimate, but he was unable to provide that information without contacting someone else who handles the contract and estimates between the two parties. I did not want to press the issue, so I'm unable to give you an adequate review on price, but they seem to be at market rates for their services and the unit they selected.)

Why Quality Plumbing Matters in Clayton

Clayton's rapid growth means many new homes with modern HVAC systems that require proper setup and maintenance from day one.

Extreme Summer Heat

Summer temperatures regularly hit 90-95°F with high humidity, putting significant demand on cooling systems throughout the season.

Builder Warranties

Newer construction neighborhoods often have specific builder warranties that require professional HVAC maintenance to remain valid.

County Building Codes

Johnston County building codes have specific requirements for HVAC installations that local professionals must navigate properly.

Common Plumbing Issues in Clayton

First-Generation Water Heaters Failing

Tank water heaters installed when Clayton homes were built are now 12-18 years old—past their expected lifespan in the Triangle's moderately hard water, with increasing risk of tank rupture and water damage.

CPVC Supply Line Aging

CPVC pipes installed in many Clayton homes during the 2005-2015 construction boom are becoming brittle, especially in attic spaces and near water heaters where temperature extremes accelerate degradation.

Construction-Quality Plumbing Issues

Rapid subdivision buildout in Clayton sometimes resulted in plumbing shortcuts—kinked supply lines, improperly sloped drains, and inadequate venting that cause problems years after construction.

Hard Water Effects on Fixtures

Triangle-area water hardness causes scale buildup on Clayton home fixtures and inside appliances, reducing performance and requiring earlier replacement than homeowners expect.

Frequently Asked Questions About Plumbing in Clayton

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Clayton

My Clayton home is only 15 years old—what plumbing issues should I watch for?

At 15 years, the top concerns for Clayton homes are: water heater failure (most tank heaters last 10-12 years), CPVC pipe cracking (especially near the water heater or in the attic), and fixture valve corrosion. We recommend a plumbing inspection at the 10-year mark and water heater replacement planning by year 12.

What type of water heater should I get for my Clayton home?

For most Clayton homes, a tankless water heater is an excellent upgrade. They last nearly twice as long as tank models, provide unlimited hot water, and take up less space. If your Clayton home has gas service, a gas tankless is most economical. For electric-only homes, a heat pump water heater is the most efficient option.

Are CPVC pipes in my Clayton home a concern?

CPVC is functional but becomes brittle over time, especially where exposed to heat or UV light. In Clayton homes built 2005-2015, we're starting to see CPVC failures at water heater connections and in unconditioned attic spaces. If you experience a CPVC leak, it's often worth proactively re-piping affected areas with PEX.

How can I protect my Clayton home from plumbing emergencies?

Know where your main water shut-off is located (usually near the front of the house or in the garage). Replace your water heater proactively before it fails. Have supply line hoses on washing machines and dishwashers inspected every 5 years. Consider a leak detection system for added protection—especially important during vacation travel.
