Heat Pump Annual Checkup Turned Up a Weak Part in Cary

What we found and did

Autumn found the dual run capacitor operating out of manufacture specifications and brought it to the homeowner's attention. The visit was preventative maintenance on one heat pump and air handler system: Autumn verified thermostat operation, checked air filter condition, and inspected the exterior heat pump unit, ductwork, refrigerant lines, condensate drain lines, electrical connections, and blower wheel. System voltage and blower motor amperage were checked, and defrost and heat kit operation were tested. The customer chose to replace the dual run capacitor while on site, and surge protection and a UV light were also recommended.

Result

After the system was cycled and tested following maintenance, it was heating properly and operating as expected.

Why quality heating tune-up matters in Cary

Airflow Challenges

Cary's suburban growth and tree canopy create unique airflow challenges, requiring properly sized HVAC systems to efficiently cool multi-story homes.

Humid Subtropical Climate

The area's humid subtropical climate with 90°F+ summer temperatures demands high-efficiency AC systems to manage energy costs and maintain comfort.

Aging Systems

Many Cary neighborhoods built in the 1990s-2000s have aging HVAC systems nearing replacement age, making preventive maintenance critical.

HOA Requirements

Local HOA regulations in Cary's planned communities often require specific equipment placement and noise level compliance for outdoor AC units.

FAQ

Heating Tune-up in Cary: questions answered

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Cary.

What's included in a heating tune-up?

Our heating tune-up includes a 20+ point inspection: cleaning the burners and heat exchanger, checking gas connections for leaks, testing the ignition system, inspecting the flue and venting, lubricating moving parts, checking electrical connections, calibrating the thermostat, replacing the air filter, and testing safety controls. We also measure system efficiency and airflow.

How often should I service my furnace?

Your furnace should be professionally serviced once a year, ideally in fall before the heating season. Annual maintenance extends equipment life by 5-10 years, maintains efficiency (saving 10-15% on heating bills), catches small problems before they become expensive repairs, and keeps your manufacturer warranty valid.

Is it too late to schedule a fall tune-up?

It's never too late to service your heating system. While fall is ideal, a winter tune-up still provides benefits: improved efficiency, safer operation, and catching issues before they cause a breakdown on the coldest day. We have availability throughout the season and can often schedule within a few days.
