“Today we had the pleasure of meeting Chris with Element Service. An old hand-crank pump that has been in our yard for 62 years ruptured when someone actually tried to crank the pump to see if it worked. Our backyard was flooded and we were beside ourselves when we learned our home maintenance plan wouldn't cover the repair. But then we remembered that the Element HVAC team had been out to service our unit and had told us they also had a plumbing division. We called this morning and they made a way out of no way to get someone here today. At 2:38PM we got the call from Chris and he was on the way! He was GREAT! Not only did he cap the line--having to bust through concrete to do so--he also kept us laughing! We were so upset when he got here, but were laughing and having a good ole time when he was done. He was determined not to leave until he fixed the problem and got our water back on. As the cliché goes, that was service with a smile! Thanks so much Chris, and thanks to the HVAC team for letting us know they also provided plumbing service. And I would be remiss if I did not mention the cost! We were floored as we were expecting an astronomical bill--especially having to get through concrete! Needless to say we were greatly surprised!!! Thanks again, Chris! Cameron has a good one!!!”

Common HVAC Maintenance Issues in Clayton
Uncorrected Installation Issues
Many Clayton HVAC systems were installed during rapid construction and never properly commissioned. Maintenance visits often reveal incorrect refrigerant charges, improper airflow, and loose electrical connections that have reduced performance since day one.
Transitioning from Trouble-Free to Maintenance-Dependent
After 10-12 years, Clayton's builder-grade HVAC systems start requiring regular component replacement—capacitors, contactors, and fan motors are the most common failure points.
High Pollen Load from Surrounding Rural Areas
Clayton's proximity to agricultural land and wooded areas means outdoor HVAC coils collect debris faster than urban areas, requiring more frequent cleaning to maintain efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions About HVAC Maintenance in Clayton
Answered by our licensed technicians serving Clayton
My Clayton home is newer—do I really need HVAC maintenance?
Even newer Clayton homes benefit from professional maintenance. In fact, many builder-grade systems have installation issues—incorrect refrigerant charge, improper ductwork connections—that we routinely discover and correct during maintenance visits. Annual maintenance also maintains your manufacturer warranty.
What's included in HVAC maintenance for Clayton homes?
Our Clayton home maintenance covers: refrigerant level check and correction, coil cleaning, condensate drain flush, electrical component testing, motor lubrication, thermostat calibration, filter replacement, and ductwork connection inspection. We also check for the installation issues common in Clayton's newer construction.
How often should I change my HVAC filter in Clayton?
We recommend monthly filter changes for Clayton homes during spring (March-May) due to heavy pollen from surrounding rural areas. During other seasons, every 60-90 days is sufficient for standard 1-inch filters. If you have pets or allergies, monthly year-round is ideal.
Will HVAC maintenance lower my Clayton energy bills?
For Clayton homes averaging $150/month in energy costs, maintenance typically saves $200-400/year. The biggest gains come from correcting refrigerant charge issues (10-20% efficiency improvement) and cleaning dirty coils (10-15% improvement). Combined, these can noticeably reduce your Duke Energy bill.
