Why Are My Drains Gurgling in Garner?

The Problem

A homeowner in Garner noticed persistent gurgling sounds coming from the drains.

What We Found

Chris found that the home's old galvanized pipes were causing drainage issues and potential blockages.

The Fix

Nick and Abimael replaced all waterlines throughout the home with PEX, installed new emergency shut-off valves at each fixture, and upgraded the washing machine box and valves. They also replaced the galvanized washing machine drain with a new P-trap and upsized the kitchen sink drain to a 2-inch drop, ensuring proper venting. Additionally, they installed a new 50-gallon electric lowboy water heater and updated the dryer venting to meet current codes.

The Result

The homeowner's plumbing system was modernized, eliminating the gurgling sounds and ensuring efficient water flow.

Pro Tip

If you hear gurgling in your drains, it might indicate venting issues or blockages. Addressing these early can prevent more significant plumbing problems down the line.

Quick Leak Fix in Garner

The Problem

A homeowner in Garner experienced a water leak coming from the washer area upstairs, causing concern about potential water damage.

What We Found

Nick found a loose washing machine supply line hose with a potentially damaged seat washer, which was the source of the leak.

The Fix

Nick and Chris replaced the washing machine hoses to stop the leak. As a courtesy, they also installed a slip-on tub spout in the upstairs master bathroom and informed the homeowner about some corrosion on the hose bib shut off in the garage, suggesting potential annual service for the electric water heater.

The Result

The leak was successfully stopped, and the homeowner was relieved to have the issue resolved quickly.

Pro Tip

If you notice water pooling under the washing machine, check the supply line connections first. Tightening loose hoses can often prevent further damage before it escalates to more extensive repairs.

Leak Detection and Repair in Garner

The Problem

A homeowner in Garner was experiencing issues with their HVAC system due to a suspected leak.

What We Found

Jeorell found multiple leaks around the outdoor unit valves after conducting a thorough leak search.

The Fix

Jeorell discussed the findings with the homeowner and provided quotes for both a system replacement and a repair. The system was turned off at the time of departure to prevent further issues.

The Result

The homeowner was informed of their options and is considering the next steps for repair or replacement.

Pro Tip

If you notice refrigerant pooling around the outdoor unit, it's a strong indicator of a leak. Address it immediately; ignoring it can lead to system failure and costly repairs down the line.

What Garner customers say about our plumbing work

Working with the Element Service team, in particular the Plumbing department, has been an absolute pleasure this last month. Starting with an inspection of my plumbing, where Chris came out did a very thorough inspection of all the plumbing and was very knowledgeable talking through everything he was looking at and why then giving good quality details on things that didn’t look great made me feel comfortable in decisions going forward on any work that I wanted to get done. Estimates were also very fairly priced and easy to work through getting the work scheduled. I decided on doing a new water heater installation, whole house water line re-pipe, and a shower replacement. Chris, Nick, and Manny were timely with their arrival to the project, walked me through what the plan was for the day and proceeded to complete the re-pipe and water heater installation on day 1. Chris and Nick came back on day 2 and worked through the shower replacement. The shower materials were of excellent quality and all turned out fantastic in the end! Through the whole process Chris made sure to keep me in the loop on how the work was progressing, if he was having issues, and on anything else I may need to know. These guys at Element Service group pride themselves on the work they do and ensure their customers are happy in the end! I really appreciate Chris and the team for the work on this large project and will definitely be using them for future projects and referring them to friends around the area.

Element was called after getting estimates from Comfort First, the plumbing company referred by American Home Shield for our broken water heater. The plumber from that AHS partner company was dishonest, trying to make it seem like modifications (which are not covered by the warranty) were all required when they were not. He also told me that if I chose the lowest-cost option, it could take three weeks for AHS to supply the new water heater. "Modifications" is the keyword for $$$ when dealing with home warranties. Element was able to get to my home within a day and installed the water heater the next morning. Chris was down-to-earth and completely honest about which code updates I actually must complete and why they were required. He also provided a quote for going tankless, but after a week of cold showers, I just wanted a quick replacement similar to the unit that had lasted us 14 years. The ultimate confirmation that Element was the right choice came when AHS called me directly and let me know the previous company lied—it only takes 3–5 days to ship a new water heater, not three weeks. I gladly took the AHS cash-in-lieu of repair option and put that money toward the Element bill. The new unit is a great step up—they replaced my old State Select with a State ProLine. The installation was highly professional, and it works great. Hopefully, I can get 14 years out of this one, too!

Chris was amazing! From the estimate to the completion of the install of a new water heater he never missed a step. He was clear and professional in his communication, detailed in his work, and left the site better than he found it. His whole crew, including Tay (and I forgot to ask the other gentleman's name) were also all great!

Common plumbing issues in Garner

Polybutylene Pipes in 1980s-90s Homes

Some Garner homes built in the 1980s-1990s have polybutylene pipes that are prone to sudden failure, causing significant water damage when they burst without warning.

Water Heater Failures in Aging Homes

Garner homes in established neighborhoods have water heaters approaching or exceeding their 10-12 year expected lifespan, risking tank failure and basement or garage flooding.

Sewer Line Problems from Construction Activity

Garner's rapid development can shift soil and stress aging sewer lines in established neighborhoods, leading to cracks, offsets, and infiltration from root intrusion.

FAQ

Plumbing in Garner: questions answered

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Garner.

Does my Garner home have polybutylene pipes?

Garner homes built between 1978 and 1995 may have polybutylene (poly-b) pipes, which are gray, blue, or black flexible plastic. These pipes are prone to sudden failure. We offer free pipe identification inspections and can recommend replacement options if poly-b is found.

How much does water heater replacement cost in Garner?

Standard tank water heater replacement in Garner runs $1,200-$2,500. Tankless water heater installation ranges from $2,500-$4,500. Tankless units provide endless hot water and longer lifespan, making them popular in Garner's larger newer homes.

Do you offer emergency plumbing service in Garner?

Yes, we provide 24/7 emergency plumbing service throughout Garner for burst pipes, major leaks, sewer backups, and water heater failures. Our technicians carry common repair parts for fast resolution of most emergencies.

Should I re-pipe my older Garner home?

If your Garner home has polybutylene pipes or galvanized steel pipes with declining water pressure, re-piping with modern PEX is a smart investment. PEX is flexible, corrosion-resistant, and typically lasts 50+ years. Re-piping a Garner home typically costs $4,000-$10,000.
