Leaking Hose Bib in Fuquay-Varina Garage

The Problem

A homeowner in Fuquay-Varina noticed water leaking from the hose bib in their garage.

What We Found

Nick found that the hose bib was leaking around the handle and determined that replacement parts were unavailable for this model.

The Fix

Nick recommended replacing the entire hose bib assembly, which required accessing the sheetrock in the garage. He informed the homeowner about the need for sheetrock repair post-installation. Additionally, he suggested installing a sediment and carbon filtration system to address water staining issues in the shower.

The Result

The homeowner agreed to the hose bib replacement and was advised on further steps to improve water quality.

Pro Tip

If you notice a leaking hose bib, it might be time for a full replacement. Quick fixes can lead to more significant water damage over time, so address leaks promptly.

The Problem

A Fuquay-Varina homeowner was unable to access the hose bib on the corner of their house.

What We Found

Chris found that the hose bib was positioned in an inaccessible location due to the layout of the home.

The Fix

Chris and Nick relocated the hose bib to the left of the back door step, ensuring it was easily accessible. They also took photos of the new installation and the area underneath the home to document the work.

Why Is My Water Heater Acting Up in Fuquay-Varina?

The Problem

A homeowner in Fuquay-Varina noticed their water heater was not performing efficiently.

What We Found

Chris found that the water heater required a new expansion tank, a flush, and an anode rod replacement.

The Fix

Chris planned to return with the necessary materials to complete the job, including installing a new expansion tank, flushing the system, and replacing the anode rod to ensure optimal performance.

The Result

The homeowner was scheduled for a follow-up visit to complete the necessary upgrades and improve the water heater's efficiency.

Pro Tip

Anode rods in water heaters should be checked every 2-3 years. If you notice rusty water or a metallic smell, it might be time to replace the anode rod to prevent tank corrosion.

What Fuquay-Varina customers say about our plumbing work

Working with the Element Service team, in particular the Plumbing department, has been an absolute pleasure this last month. Starting with an inspection of my plumbing, where Chris came out did a very thorough inspection of all the plumbing and was very knowledgeable talking through everything he was looking at and why then giving good quality details on things that didn’t look great made me feel comfortable in decisions going forward on any work that I wanted to get done. Estimates were also very fairly priced and easy to work through getting the work scheduled. I decided on doing a new water heater installation, whole house water line re-pipe, and a shower replacement. Chris, Nick, and Manny were timely with their arrival to the project, walked me through what the plan was for the day and proceeded to complete the re-pipe and water heater installation on day 1. Chris and Nick came back on day 2 and worked through the shower replacement. The shower materials were of excellent quality and all turned out fantastic in the end! Through the whole process Chris made sure to keep me in the loop on how the work was progressing, if he was having issues, and on anything else I may need to know. These guys at Element Service group pride themselves on the work they do and ensure their customers are happy in the end! I really appreciate Chris and the team for the work on this large project and will definitely be using them for future projects and referring them to friends around the area.

Element was called after getting estimates from Comfort First, the plumbing company referred by American Home Shield for our broken water heater. The plumber from that AHS partner company was dishonest, trying to make it seem like modifications (which are not covered by the warranty) were all required when they were not. He also told me that if I chose the lowest-cost option, it could take three weeks for AHS to supply the new water heater. "Modifications" is the keyword for $$$ when dealing with home warranties. Element was able to get to my home within a day and installed the water heater the next morning. Chris was down-to-earth and completely honest about which code updates I actually must complete and why they were required. He also provided a quote for going tankless, but after a week of cold showers, I just wanted a quick replacement similar to the unit that had lasted us 14 years. The ultimate confirmation that Element was the right choice came when AHS called me directly and let me know the previous company lied—it only takes 3–5 days to ship a new water heater, not three weeks. I gladly took the AHS cash-in-lieu of repair option and put that money toward the Element bill. The new unit is a great step up—they replaced my old State Select with a State ProLine. The installation was highly professional, and it works great. Hopefully, I can get 14 years out of this one, too!

Chris was amazing! From the estimate to the completion of the install of a new water heater he never missed a step. He was clear and professional in his communication, detailed in his work, and left the site better than he found it. His whole crew, including Tay (and I forgot to ask the other gentleman's name) were also all great!

Local conditions

Why quality plumbing matters in Fuquay-Varina

Southern Heat

Fuquay-Varina's southern Wake County location experiences some of the hottest temperatures in the Triangle, with HVAC systems working overtime during peak summer months. Systems need to be properly sized and maintained to handle the extended cooling season.

Varied Properties

The town's mix of rural properties and suburban developments means HVAC needs range from single-story ranch homes to two-story suburban builds. Each property type requires different system configurations and maintenance approaches.

Humidity Control

High summer humidity combined with heat creates challenging conditions for cooling systems. Proper dehumidification is essential for both comfort and preventing moisture-related issues in your home.

Well Water Systems

Many homes in Fuquay-Varina use well water, which can affect HVAC performance and maintenance needs. Understanding the interaction between your water system and HVAC is crucial for optimal operation.

Diagnostics

Common plumbing issues in Fuquay-Varina

Builder-Quality Plumbing Shortcuts

Fuquay-Varina's rapid construction period sometimes resulted in quick plumbing installations—improperly sloped drains, minimal pipe support, and lower-quality fixtures that fail sooner than expected.

Water Heater Approaching End-of-Life

Original tank water heaters in Fuquay-Varina homes are 10-16 years old and approaching failure, with Triangle water hardness accelerating sediment buildup and tank corrosion.

CPVC Pipe Vulnerability

CPVC supply lines in Fuquay-Varina homes are becoming brittle, particularly at hot water connections and in unconditioned spaces like garages and attics.

Subdivision Infrastructure Growing Pains

Rapid development has stressed municipal water and sewer infrastructure in parts of Fuquay-Varina, occasionally causing water pressure fluctuations that stress home plumbing systems.

FAQ

Plumbing in Fuquay-Varina: questions answered

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Fuquay-Varina.

Why do newer Fuquay-Varina homes have plumbing issues?

Rapid construction during Fuquay-Varina's growth boom prioritized speed, and plumbing sometimes suffered. Common issues we find include improperly sloped drain lines (causing slow drains), inadequate pipe support (causing sags and low spots), and lower-quality fixtures that fail within 10-15 years. These issues are correctable but need professional diagnosis.

When should I replace my Fuquay-Varina home's water heater?

If your water heater is 10+ years old—which applies to most original Fuquay-Varina installations—start planning for replacement. Signs of imminent failure include rusty water, rumbling sounds, decreasing hot water supply, and visible corrosion. Proactive replacement prevents water damage from a sudden tank failure.

Is tankless worth the upgrade in Fuquay-Varina?

For Fuquay-Varina homes with gas service, tankless water heaters are an excellent upgrade—endless hot water, longer lifespan, and lower operating costs. For all-electric homes, heat pump water heaters offer the best efficiency. Both options reduce the water heating portion of your $155/month energy bill.

Do you handle plumbing for Fuquay-Varina's new construction?

Yes. For new homes and additions in Fuquay-Varina, we provide quality plumbing installation with proper pipe sizing, correct drain slopes, and premium fixtures. We also offer second-opinion inspections for newly built homes to verify the builder's plumbing meets our quality standards.
