Why Is My AC Struggling Upstairs in Rolesville?

The Problem

The homeowner noticed that the upstairs area wasn't cooling as efficiently as the rest of the house.

What We Found

Travis found that while both cooling systems were functioning well, the upstairs unit had a dust buildup in the blower.

The Fix

Travis and Jeorell performed maintenance on both outdoor units, cleaning the coils and removing debris. They checked all electrical components and confirmed that the air handler in the crawlspace was functioning properly. Travis recommended cleaning the upstairs blower due to dust buildup and noted that a new contactor would be needed in the future.

The Result

Both cooling systems were operating efficiently, and the homeowner was advised on future maintenance needs.

Pro Tip

Dust buildup in your AC blower can reduce efficiency. Consider scheduling a blower cleaning if you notice reduced airflow or uneven cooling, especially in upstairs areas.

Travis is a great guy. He educated me on maintenance and he was very pleasant and kind and you can tell the man has a big heart. I’m very very happy and very, very glad to have met him and also very glad to not be in a 93° house anymore.

Fantastic experience with Element today! Communication was fantastic from start to finish. We booked an appointment for a HVAC inspection/tune up. Cost was very reasonable and was able to get someone out the same week. Before we even booked the appointment, the expectations were set of what the inspection services would include. The day of the appointment we received a text with a picture of our service technician, Dexter Davis. What really impressed me was not only did we get a picture, but the text included a little bit of his professional background and a bit about him personally. Dexter gave us a call to let us know he was on his way out. Everything about my interaction with him was awesome. After he completed his inspection, he showed me pictures of his findings and took the time to explain what they meant and how it could impact the health of our system. He answered all of my questions- had a wealth of knowledge and was realistic on which items needed to be addressed sooner rather than later. I did not feel pressured to buy anything on the spot. He did explain how I could save on repairs by becoming a member and went over benefits of the plan. We received the quote with pictures shortly after he left. I know this is a long review- but I wanted to make sure that I gave Dexter some shout outs for service, professionalism and knowledge. We will do more business with Element!

Common hvac maintenance issues in Rolesville

New Homeowners Skipping Maintenance on New Systems

Many Rolesville homeowners in Holding Village and Young Farm assume new HVAC systems do not need maintenance for several years. In reality, annual maintenance is required to keep manufacturer warranties valid and ensure optimal performance.

Pollen and Allergen Buildup on Outdoor Units

Rolesville proximity to wooded areas and open land means outdoor condenser units accumulate heavy pollen deposits in spring, reducing efficiency by 10-20% if not cleaned.

Condensate Drain Clogs in Humid Climate

Rolesville humid summers cause rapid algae growth in condensate drain lines, which can lead to system shutdowns and water damage if drains are not flushed during routine maintenance.

Ductwork Degradation in Older Homes

Homes in Olde Mill Stream and Granite Falls with ductwork running through unconditioned attics may have joints separating and insulation deteriorating after 15-20 years, causing significant energy loss.

FAQ

HVAC Maintenance in Rolesville: questions answered

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Rolesville.

How often should Rolesville homeowners get HVAC maintenance?

We recommend twice-annual maintenance for all Rolesville homes — spring for cooling systems and fall for heating. Given Rolesville heavy pollen seasons, we also recommend checking filters every 60 days from March through June.

Does my new Holding Village home need HVAC maintenance?

Absolutely. New HVAC systems require annual professional maintenance to keep your manufacturer warranty valid. Even in new Holding Village homes, we find installation issues during first-year inspections that are best addressed early — like improperly charged refrigerant or loose electrical connections.

What does an HVAC maintenance plan cost in Rolesville?

Our Rolesville maintenance plans start at $189 per year and include two annual visits, priority scheduling, 15% off repairs, and no overtime charges. Given Rolesville average energy bills of $155 per month, the efficiency improvements from regular maintenance typically save more than the plan cost.

Can maintenance extend the life of my Rolesville HVAC system?

Yes, well-maintained systems last 15-20 years versus 10-12 for neglected ones. For Rolesville homeowners with systems valued at $8,000-$15,000, regular maintenance can extend useful life by 3-5 years — a significant return on a modest annual investment.
